Ink Lake Advisors was founded in 1998 as Ben-Don Innovations Inc (BDI)  Ben Voss, P.Eng, ICD.D was finishing his 4th year of Agricultural and Bioresource Engineering while taking elective courses in marketing, business planning and agriculture sciences.  He saw the opportunity to start his own company and his own destiny.  The company grew, providing engineering consulting services to Western Canada's short-line manufacturers.  He also launched several other startups, learned to raise venture capital and was soon recruited for large boards and other executive roles.  In 2005, BDI was converted into the family office of Ben Voss as well as the farming company when he took over his family's farm near Spiritwood, SK.  Today, BDI is known as Ink Lake Advisors.

On the Voss farm, located approximately 200 km north-west of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan there is a 110 acre dry lake that is now farmed.  The maps refer to it as Shuwapps Lake but we always called it "Ink Lake".  It has been one of the most fertile and productive pieces of land on our farm.  We thought, why not name our company off that heritage as we also want to be productive for our clients.

Since childhood, we have also been involved in the community.  From 4-H to volunteering at the community hall to supporting our elders - this is a great way to support. Today, charities and non-profit organizations are big part of where we spend our time.  It is also a way we express our innovative spirit.  Like this event, the Field of Stars was launched in 2018 and has raised more than $5Million for STARS while celebrating the relationship to rural Canada and particular, farmers.    You can find more about our philanthropy and values at

Who is Ben Voss?

An accomplished leader at the helm of executive teams, adept at defining and executing operational strategies while driving both short and long-term business objectives for optimal market competitiveness and sustained profitability. Proficient in devising and executing comprehensive expansion strategies, aligning corporate goals with business unit planning, and capitalizing on growth opportunities while addressing operational weaknesses.

Over 20 years of corporate governance and board director expertise in varied sectors and firm sizes, including some with $1B+ sales, I've steered many executive transfers and CEO successions. This required managing leave discussions, leadership searches, and hiring suitable successors to ensure seamless transitions and corporate governance.

I've led companies to profitability and resilience throughout my career. From my experience in manufacturing and public company leadership, C-suite positions, and board-level roles, I understand the complex technology, agricultural and industrial landscapes in North America, Europe, Australia, India, and South America.

Leading cross-functional teams to identify and capitalize on market opportunities has been a forte, resulting in the successful launch of innovative products/services and sustaining a competitive edge in the industry.

My career has encompassed a breadth of expertise spanning various industries, including public companies, industrial, manufacturing, farm machinery, autonomy, precision farming, ag-tech, telecom, and automation. This comprehensive knowledge underscores my specialized skills in pivotal technological domains within agriculture and technology landscapes.

My governance duties include a diverse set of private industrial companies, private equity, pension and benefits management, regulatory compliance, and law and standard compliance. In addition, I've optimized investment methods to generate consistent returns for pension fund sustainability and growth, displaying strong financial management. Rooted in Farming

Ben also owns and operates a 1,500 acre grain and forage farm near Spiritwood, SK Canada.  The farm is a business unit that operates alongside Ink Lake Advisors under the parent company called MNC Land & Management Inc. (formerly BDI).  Ben and his family built a home on the original homestead site of his great grandfather which makes him the 4th generation.   What makes this special for Ink lake Advisors is that not only is Ben a professional engineer and business leader, but he actually farms too.  this makes his experience very authentic and practical.

International Perspectives

Our company has many colleagues around the world but most of our experience is in Canada, the US, Australia and Europe.  We have visited hundreds of farms and seen first hand many ways of farming.
